

Born on October 3rd in Morganton, NC, Barbara graduated from Drexel High School in 1956, went on to earn a degree from Mars Hill College, now Mars Hill University in 1958, and Presbyterian School of Medical Technology in 1959. She worked as a lab technician for many years in Burke and Caldwell Counties.
Barbara lived a life of faith, service, and song. A devoted member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church where she served in many roles over the years, volunteered with Presbyterian Hospice and Palliative Care, and joyfully sang for nearly three decades with the Queen Charlotte Sweet Adelines chorus. She will be remembered for her kindness, compassion, and steadfast love for the Lord, her family, and her community.
She is survived by her son, Steve Mauney of Charlotte; granddaughters, Katie Anderson (Daniel) of Mount Holly and Emily Mauney (Max Reinbachs) of Wilmington; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Kaylynn Anderson, who are her absolute pride and joys.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Novella Goodnight; her beloved husband of 41 years, Russell Mauney; and their infant daughter, Amy.
The family would like to acknowledge and send a special thanks to their friend, Dawana Lewis, for her kindness and extra love shown by lending a hand to help care for Barbara this past year.
Barbara’s family also wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the incredible doctors, nurses, and staff of the Neurosurgical Intensive Care Unit at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte and Carolina Caring-Robin Johnson House in Dallas, NC for their kindness and compassion towards our entire family.
A service to celebrate Barbara’s life and faith will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025 with visitation at 10:00AM and service at 11:00AM at Durham Memorial Baptist Church in Charlotte, NC with Pastor Mike Williams officiating. Burial to follow at Burke Memorial Park in Morganton, NC. To honor Barbara’s joyful spirit, the family encourages attendees to wear pastel colors in celebration of a vibrant lady who brought light to all who knew her.
