Beatrice (Bea) Mallette Taylor passed away peacefully August 22,2024. Bea was born June 14,1927 in Torrington, Connecticut to Emerson and Lillian Mallette. She was predeceased in death by her husband of almost 70 years, Howard R Taylor (2021) and her youngest son John (1980).
Bea grew up in Torrington, Connecticut and went on to attend and graduate from the Connecticut Teachers' College. After college, Bea and Howard married, moved to Charlotte, and made it their home for the next 70 years.
Bea's first love and priority was always her family. As a trained teacher, not surprisingly, Bea was very involved with all her children's education. She believed in strong values and the power of education to equip young adults to be successful in life. Bea, along with Howard provided a loving home with high expectations and continuous support for her children as each choose the path that was best for them.
Bea also loved her Church and was person of faith. She was an active member of The Holy Comforter Episcopal Church well into her 70's, as long as her health allowed. She set a high standard for Church involvement, including her volunteer work with Loaves and Fishes and the Altar Guild. She was a strong but quiet source of strength. She also believed in regular church attendance and participation, and the benefit of a church-influenced upbringing. It was consistent with her values and faith.
After her family and her church, her next love was education, including working as a teacher across several grades before focusing on early childhood education. She held many roles, but for many of the years, was the Director of the Park Road Baptist Child Development Center and on the Governor’s Commission on early childhood education.
Her many interests and hobbies including her Bridge club, birds, flowers, and golf. Many do not realize she was the original golfer in the family. Bea also loved her flowers. Many grands had the privilege of planting flowers yearly (a task at the time- now a fond memory). She so loved her birds as well. There was always a birdcage in the house with Tweety inside. Bea’s number one love though was her family. She and Howard were blessed with a loving successful family.
Waltonwood on Providence was Bea’s home for the last few years . Those that loved her were in evidence in her last days. Roxanne and other staff became family. We love and thank them.
Survivors include sons Howard; James ( Mary Rose) and their children Chase and Nick; David (Marsha) and their sons Jason (Rosalie), Christopher (Katherine) and Brian ( Kristin); and Robert (Susan) and their children Kristen, Daniel( Courtenay) and Matthew. Three great grands (all girls so far!) Rhys, Ellie, and Collins are also beloved children continuing the Taylor legacy.
A visitation for Beatrice will be held Saturday, August 31, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at McEwen Funeral Service Inc., 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210.
