Bernice Nash Helms

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Oakhurst Baptist Church, 5037 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28205 with Interment to follow in Sharon Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday at the McEwen Funeral Service, Charlotte Chapel, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.

Bernice was born January 2, 1919, in Union County, NC to the late Jeptha and Florence Nash. For 25 years she was the cafeteria supervisor for Landsdown Elementary School and for 26 years she worked in the dietary department of Presbyterian Hospital. She also worked for Gay Laundry and Cleaners. She was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church. Bernice loved her family very much and will be missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Helms was preceded in death by her husband W. Martin Helms; sister, Eunice Price and her brothers, Harold, Homer and Heath Nash. She is survived by her sons, Ronnie Helms and wife Peggy of Chesterfield, VA, Jerry Helms and wife Gini of Charlotte; grandchildren, Marty, Gretchen, Kristopher, Big Jake; great grandchildren, Meghan, Colson, Kyra, Caleb; brother, Joe N. Nash of Monroe; sisters, Doris M. Greene of Monroe and Gladys Henderson of Stanley and very close and dear niece, Martha Price of Matthews.
