Betsy Walden Phillips

Betsy W. Phillips of Charlotte passed away on May 5, 2016. Betsy was a graduate of Wingate University and Winthrop University. She enjoyed a career in Computer Programming where she was employed by Bank of America, Show Pro, Belk Services, C.R.V.A. , and the Election Board. Betsy also enjoyed being a volunteer and gave her time to The American Red Cross, Operation Christmas Child, Baptists on Mission Disaster Relief, and the Coral Society. She volunteered for over eleven years at the North Carolina Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. Betsy was strong in her Christian faith and was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Kathryn Walden. Survivors include her husband, Ronald Thompson; step-daughter, Abbigail Thompson; sister, Kay Dobbins (Robert); nieces, Robin, Donna, and Elizabeth Dobbins; a special cousin, Linda Carpenter; sister-in-law, Evelyn Thompson; her two special pets, Teddy and Harry; and a host of extended family and friends. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 6050 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte NC 28215. A funeral service will follow at 11:30, Pastor John Harold officiating. Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Lakeland Memorial Park.
