

Bette June Compton Stallings, 79, of Charlotte, passed away at her home on October 11, 2013. She was born in Madison County, Georgia and was the daughter of the late Guy T. Compton and Dorothy King Compton, and sister of the late Donald Compton.
She graduated from A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis and attended Queens College studying the principles of insurance law. Mrs. Stallings retired from Continental Insurance Company after 33 years of service; following her retirement she worked for Kemper Insurance Company for seven years before her final retirement.
She was a loving wife, wonderful mother, sister and adoring grandmother. Bette was musically talented and had a beautiful soprano voice. She also enjoyed reading and sports, particularly college basketball. She and her sister, Gurline sang together on many occasions for the Glory of God. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Herbert Lee Stallings; sons, Cameron Stallings and wife, Debbie of Monroe, Timothy Dale Stallings of Charlotte; sister, Gurline Lewis of Gastonia; grandson, Henderson Lee Stallings and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at The Paul Helton Chapel, Forest Lawn West at 3:00 pm Monday, October 14, 2013 with Pastor Shad Hicks officiating. Interment will follow the service in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
