

She is survived by her children: Dawn Bryant (Greg), Andrea Broome (Ric); grandchildren: Christopher Bryant (Joely), Shasta Smith (Chris), Justin Broome; great-grandchildren, Carson Bryant, Asher Bryant, Aubrey Smith, Raelyn Smith, Easton Smith. Surviving sisters include Nancy Griffin (Chris), Patricia Nance (David), Karen Johnston (Tedd) along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty was the middle child of the late Ethel Ferrell Winkler and Leroy A. Winkler, Sr. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carlee (Dink) Snipes, her second husband, Andrew (Andy) Helton, her brother, Leroy A. Winkler, Jr. and her nephew, Brandon Jenkins.
She was a 1957 graduate of the old Harding High School and was extremely active with the Alumni association and the Class of 1957. She devoted many hours and every opportunity being actively involved in her grandchildren, great-grandchildren,nieces and nephews’ lives.
Betty had a great sense of humor and wanted to party with Bloody Mary, Tom Collins and Margarita(s), although she NEVER DRANK.
She was exceptionally valuable in her career and in 1981, earned a certificate as a Professional Legal Secretary, the only one in North Carolina at the time. She retired from the firm of Parker, Poe in 2004 after 30 years.
Betty was an avid Chocoholic, movie theater goer, reader and was a member of her church choir. AND she was a card-making fiend for EVERY OCCASION, big or small.
A service to honor Betty’s life will be held at Central Steele Creek Presbyterian Church in the fellowship hall. Visitation at 10am with service to follow at 11am, Friday, March 22, 2024. McEwen Funeral Home is serving Betty’s family. Burial will be at Sharon Memorial Park.
