That Usual Way

Oh, Mama, it was September 2nd

You peacefully passed away

And though we can’t see you

In the usual way,

Your radiance is with us

In the brilliance of sunrise,

The unfurling of day;

And though we can’t hear you

In the usual way,

Your laughter, your gift of gab

is with us to cherish,

to rekindle, every day;

And while we can’t touch you

In the usual way,

Your exuberance can be felt

Amid sunflowers, pumpkins,

over birthday cake;

And while much of you, Mama,

lives within us today,

What we wouldn’t do

To hug you, to laugh, to see you,

In that usual way

With her radiant smile and infectious laughter, she will be missed by so many, including daughters, Shelly and Wendy Hughes; sons, Art (Karen) and John Hughes (Christopher Pardo); grandsons, Troy Swayney, Cameron and Chandler Godfrey; and Art A. Hughes; sisters, Evelyn Burdge, and Dorothy (Andy) Maxwell; brother, Richie (Diane) Burdge; lifelong friends, Billy Ciardiello and Rosemary Casby; and irreplaceable friend Joanne.

Preceding Beverly’s passing are sisters, Edwina Kessel, and Sheila Barbaria; beloved godfather, Charles Covella; and son-in-law, Johnny Godfrey.

Visitation will be held September 08, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. followed by a Memorial Service at 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm at McEwen Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, North Carolina.
