

Birdie Lee Bingham Suttle, affectionately known as Birdie, passed away peacefully on September 12th, 2024, in Mount Holly, NC, at the age of 87. Born on May 8th, 1937, in Franklin, NC, Birdie was a woman of warmth and grace with a quiet demeanor that would transform into lively conversation once she connected with someone.
Her life was enriched by her relationships with her loved ones. Birdie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Ralph "Hub" Suttle; her parents, Richard and Elsie Bingham, and her siblings Dick, Sally, Nelle, Elma, Mary Frances, Esta Mae, and Annie Belle. She is survived by her cherished siblings, Ted and Mildred; her daughters, Angel, son-in-law Jacques and Michelle; her grandchildren, Amanda, Jessica, Jacob, Sammie, Meagan, Kristin and Erin and great-grandchildren CJ, Sydney, Zack, Willow, Sam, Rachel, Quincy, and Birdie Anne, a herd of nieces and nephews, as well as her stepsons, Ralph Jr. and Mike Suttle, and their families.
Birdie's educational journey led her to Brevard College, Pfeiffer College, and Wake Forest University, where she cultivated a passion for helping others. She eventually became a dedicated Physician's Assistant with a special focus on serving veterans. Her altruistic spirit extended to medical mission trips in the Appalachian Mountains and active involvement in Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Birdie's lovable traits endeared her to all who knew her. She was known for her kindness, compassion, and rare moments of gentle anger, often sparked by unexpected events like a grandchild bringing home a surprise pet. Her morning routine, which included reading the obituaries first, shed light on her humor and acceptance of life's uncertainties.
Her unwavering faith was a central aspect of her life. Birdie's love for the Lord was evident in her attendance at church services, Christian retreats, and participation in mission trips. She embraced new experiences, like her first taste of sushi on a cruise, and developed a fondness for salmon dinners paired with a glass of Pinot Grigio.
The celebration of Birdie's life will take place on Saturday, September 21st, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Garden Memorial Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 2324 Sam Wilson Road, Charlotte. Interment in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. After the graveside service, a meal will be provided at Garden Memorial for family and friends.
Birdie's legacy of love, kindness, and faith will endure in the hearts of those who were touched by her presence. May she find eternal peace in the embrace of her Heavenly Father, leaving behind a treasure trove of memories and moments that will be cherished forever.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Brevard College's Annual Scholarship Fund in Birdie's honor.
