A Gathering of Family and Friends will be held at McEwen Funerals & Cremations at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC 28208, on Thursday, the 2nd of April, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Bob was born on January 7, 1943, in Jamaica, Queens, Long Island, New York.
Bob was predeceased by his parents, Flora Elizabeth Boothby and Roby Randall Boothby Jr., as well as his daughter, Koral Boothby.
Bob worked in several trades throughout his lifetime.
In his youth, he moved furniture and later worked in a machine shop before finding his true calling as a truck driver. He drove tractor-trailers for several years in upstate New York until he and his wife, Maddie, relocated to Charlotte, NC in 1997. There, he continued his career with FedEx Ground, driving until his retirement in January 2012.
Bob truly loved being outdoors. He enjoyed sitting quietly, listening to the birds and the wind in the trees. He also took pride in mowing the lawn and keeping the yard neat. Bob cherished trips to the beaches of North Carolina with his family, especially Oak Island, his favorite destination. After Maddie retired, they enjoyed going to the movies weekly and attending plays together, with The Lion King being Bob’s favorite.
An avid weightlifter, Bob began lifting in his teens and remained dedicated to it, working out three to four times a week well into his early 80s, until his health no longer allowed him to continue. It was especially difficult for him to step away from something he loved so deeply.
Bob was also known for his deep love of animals. Over the years, he and Maddie opened their home to many dogs and cats. Even after experiencing the heartbreak of losing beloved pets, they continued to adopt and provide loving homes for animals in need. His pets meant everything to him and brought him years of joy!
Known for his feisty spirit and strong opinions, Bob was also a softhearted and considerate man when it mattered most. Those closest to him will remember both his toughness and his deep capacity for love, care, and loyalty. You never had to wonder what Bob was thinking, he told it like it was. Interestingly, this honesty was a quality appreciated by family, friends, and coworkers alike.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Maddie Boothby; his children, Roby Boothby IV (Samantha), Ryan Boothby (Lexi), and Kristi Wilson (Jeff); his stepchildren, Sue Kirsch, Michelle Cory, Alice Farmer, and Lonnie Farmer Jr.; his cherished grandchildren, McKenzie Wilson, Cassondra Farmer, Gaige Brown, Garrett Cory, Angie Cory, Colton Cory, and Coley Kirsch; and his siblings, Roger Boothby (Sheila) of Lockwood, NY, Ritchie Boothby (Elaine) of Florida, and Barbara Knoblock of Lockwood, NY.
Bob’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
