

Bobby was a strong, caring and selfless man who was the oldest of five children born in Mooresville, NC on May 28th, 1940 to Kermit and Vera Shumaker. In his youth he was a member of Berea Baptist Church in Mooresville and attended Mooresville High School and Gaston Technical College.
He married Patsy Shumaker on January 27th, 1962 in Charlotte, had two girls and spent the next 20 years volunteering as a Girl Scout leader for their troops. He was a member of Back Creek Presbyterian ARP Church and the East Gate Masonic Lodge. He retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System after 30 years of holding many different positions, including grounds man, electrician, dispatcher, and personnel manager in Human Resources. Throughout his life he enjoyed extensive travelling, cross country trips in his motor home, Paso Fino horses, gardening, tinkering in his workshop, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Patsy Howie Shumaker, his loving daughters and their husbands Michelle and Jay Ford, and Deana and Paul Adams, his much loved brother-in-law and his wife, Stacy and Marsha Howie. And will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Matthew and Kellie Ford, Jonathan, Harrison, and Sullivan Adams, and Erin, Rebecca, and Cameron Howie. He is also survived by 4 siblings and their families, Randy and Betty Shumaker of Mooresville, Patricia and Tommy Hager of Mooresville, Michael and Barbara Shumaker of Clyde, and Terri Alexander of Charlotte. He is preceded in death by his father Kermit Shumaker. The family would like to thank the good people at The Preston House in Charlotte for their loving care during the last year.
Funeral services are planned for 10:00 am Monday, March 3, 2014 at McEwen Derita Chapel. Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday where the family will be present from2 to4 pm.
