

Brenda Smith was a loving wife, sister, a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother. Born on February 17, 1952, in Manhattan New York City, NY. She was the fourth child of 8 children born to the late Carl & Ada Frierson. Brenda was christened at East Harlem Protestant Parish Church of the Redeemer, NYC. She attended Sunday School and Church with parents and siblings. Brenda was dedicated to helping others. She grew up in the East River Projects, raised up among a close-knit community. She later relocated to the Bronx, NY. Brenda later met and married her soulmate, Moses Smith Jr. on September 4, 1982. She was blessed to help raise Moses’ 8-year-old son Atiba Sr. They resided in Queens N.Y. before relocating to Charlotte, NC.
Brenda started a hobby of sewing, making her clothes in her youth and well into her adult life. During her youth she made most of her clothing using unique patterns that she designed. Brenda’s grandmother, Lilly Mae, was a seamstress, who she consulted with for help when needed. Brenda’s hobby led her to sewing for her sister. She made clothing for her friends and family then taught her sister Corliss how to sew.
Brenda attended Bronx Community College/Mandl School for Medical and Dental Assistant. She received a certificate and later worked as a Licensed Clinical Lab Technician in Pediatrics at Bellevue Hospital, 1973-1993. Brenda later worked as a Medication Technician/Coordinator for Neurological Brain Impaired youth until 1997 and later relocated to Charlotte NC in 1998.
In 2004 Brenda changed her career and was trained at Lucorja Adult Care Home and became a Medication Technician as well as a Personal Care Aide. In 2006 she became a Certified Nurse Assistant for the State of NC. Brenda worked as a CNA for Lucorja Adult Care Home, a family business, from 2004 until 2015. She also worked in various assisted living facilities within the Mecklenburg County. Brenda enjoyed her work providing loving care to others. She remained active in this profession until 2017 when she retired.
Brenda attended the Christ Resurrection Church in Charlotte, NC, 2010-2017. She was always willing to help those in need and would buy clothing to give away along with money & food to those in need.
Brenda, along with her husband Moses helped raise their grandson, Atiba Jr. and helped raise their great-grandchildren, Ajaya & Tito, both are 9 years old. Brenda showed so much love for her great-grandchildren in the way she cared for them. The children enjoyed
themselves when visiting their home. She continued to help Moses take care of her great-grandchildren, until her health started to decline.
Left to cherish her memories include her loving spouse of 43 years, Moses Smith Jr.; grandson, Atiba Smith, Jr. (Griselle Smith); great- grandchildren, Ajaya Campbell Smith; Tito Smith, Jr.; sisters: Angelin Allen; Valeria Jenkins; Corliss Cooke (Lucian Cooke); Lizette Frierson Marzette; brother, Gregory Frierson (Robin Frierson); sister-n-law, Clarice Frierson; godson/nephew, Michael Boone II (Lilly Mae Boone, great-niece); six (6) nephews; six (6) great-nephews; eight (8) nieces; nine (9) great-nieces; cousins and a host of friends.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was predeceased by stepson, Atiba Sr.; sister, Gladys Tredwell; brother: Garey Frierson.
A funeral service for Brenda will be held on Friday, February 13, 2026, 12:00 pm in the chapel of McEwen Funerals and Cremations at Forest Lawn West, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC. Visitation 11:00 am until the time of service in the funeral home chapel. Burial in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Condolences may be submitted at www.forestlawnwest.com
