

Mrs. Carmalt H. Brown, 94, of Olin, NC, peacefully passed away in her sleep on Friday, December 14, 2012. She was born March 1, 1918 in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Cirby Clarence Hartman, Sr. and Ethel Eugenia Donkel Hartman.
She resided on Manning Drive in Charlotte from 1962 until 2003, then moved to Atria Merrywood from 2003-2011 before moving into her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Olin, NC.
Mrs. Brown graduated from Boyden High School, Salisbury, NC and attended Queens College, (class of 1939) Charlotte, NC. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte since 1949, taught Sunday school, was a member and served as a leader of Circle 4.
Mrs. Brown obtained her North Carolina Real Estate license in 1972 and began a very successful career in real estate, working first for Sandra Townsend Realty, then for Cottingham-Chalk, and lastly for Flohouse-McClave. She was a million dollar seller multiple times, indicating at that time an outstanding sales performance. After retiring from full-time sales, former clients continued to depend upon her expertise.
From the late 1950’s and into the 80’s, she was a dedicated swim instructor to her children, grandchildren, and others, ensuring her students were excellent swimmers. She loved her role as a homemaker and home gardener, and enjoyed canning jams and jellies. Mrs. Brown was involved in several garden and bridge clubs, loved hosting luncheons, and doing for others.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brown was preceded in death by her husband, James Asbury Brown; sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Tom Yorke; and brother and sister-in-law, Clarence and Helen Hartman.
Mrs. Brown is survived by her children, James “Jim” Asbury Brown, Jr. and former daughter-in-law, Loraine Brown and their sons, Corbin and Justin Brown, all of Charlotte; son, Roger Kent Brown and wife Jamie and their children, Emily Maxwell and husband William, and Ethan Brown, all of Charlotte; daughter, Carolyn Brown Seipel and husband Donnie of Olin, NC, and their children, Colby Setzer and wife Johnna, and great-granddaughter, Saige Setzer, all of Greenbrier, AR and son, Stuart Setzer and wife Brianna of Woodleaf, NC; stepson, Jeff Seipel and wife Gramintz, and step great-granddaughters, Covenant and Grace of Catawba, NC, and stepdaughter, Jennifer Seipel of Ft. Myers, FL.
The funeral service will be managed by Harry and Bryant, and held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012 in the Chapel of McEwen Funeral Home, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park with grandsons serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to First Presbyterian Church of Charlotte TV Ministry or Hospice of Iredell County.
