Carol Ann Saari, adoring wife to her husband, C.W. Saari, died on October 21st due to GI complications leading to cardiac arrest. Carol was born in 1948 in Massachusetts. After high school in Somerset, MA, she graduated from High Point University in North Carolina and began her career in teaching. While studying for her masters, she met her Marine Corps husband while he was attending Naval Justice School in Newport, RI. They fell in love immediately and three months later started their marriage at Camp Pendleton, CA. During the past fifty years, Carol has lived in eight states and taught in seven of those. At the same time she totally supported her husband’s career in both the Marine Corps and FBI where he was a Special Agent for twenty-nine years.
Carol comes from a seafaring family and, her father, brother, uncle, and two grandfathers were all sea captains. She is survived by her husband, who was also her best friend, and who lives in Lancaster, SC; a brother and sister-in-law from New Hampshire (Kenneth and Marnee Lancashire); and a daughter and son-in-law of Rock Hill, SC (Amanda and Ray Pascal).
Carol enjoyed cooking and reading, particularly historical novels set during the 1920-1945 time frame. She energetically volunteered for community and church projects, was involved with the Phi Mu Sorority from college, and was especially proud of knitting clothes for disadvantaged children. She was an attentive listener and endeavored to live each day by following the golden rule. She tried never to say anything about a person unless it was something positive. She found time each evening to solve one or more Sudoku puzzles before finishing her day by reading a devotional for both gratitude and inspiration.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol’s memory may be made to the Lancaster Children’s Home, Inc. or the Humane Society of York County.
Condolences may be offered at www.McEwenPinevilleChapel.com.
