

Cecil Ray Mullins, age 92, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, passed away on August 20th, 2016 at his home with his immediate family by his side. Born on November 2nd 1923 to Milton and Kate Mullins in Dunbar, Virginia, he grew up in Wise County, Virginia. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his brothers, Hoyt and Gerald Mullins.
Ray served during World War II with General Patton’s 3rd Army, 115th Anti-Aircraft Battalion. He survived five combat zones from Omaha Beach to the Battle of the Bulge. He attained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant while in the Army Reserves. Ray graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1949 with a degree in Architectural Engineering. While a Tech, he was a member of the Pershing Rifles in the Corps of Cadets.
He was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church for many years and was a Vice President at FN Thompson Construction Company for 35 years prior to his retirement. Married to his beloved wife for 65 years, he is survived by Betty Purcell Mullins; by daughter, Patricia Mullins Acuff; by son, Cameron Ray Mullins; by grandsons, Christopher and Johnathan Mullins; and by his sister, Betty Bolling. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Gardens of Sharon Memorial Park with the Rev. Dr. Dennis Foust officiating. Full military rites will be afforded to Mr. Mullins. The family will receive friends prior to the service at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park from 10:00 am until 10:45 AM, prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St John’s Baptist Church, 300 Hawthorne Lane, Charlotte, NC 28204 or to Hospice and Palliative Care-Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
