

Charles W Fleenor (known to most as Chuck), age 64 passed away Sunday October 19, 2014 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC following a sudden and rapid decline from Pulmonary Fibrosis that he was diagnosed with in 2007.
Chuck was born September 17, 1950 in Charlotte, NC. He was the son of the late Herbert Wilson Fleenor and Beatrice Hathcock Fleenor who were both from Charlotte, NC.
Chuck attended Independence High School and graduated from there in 1968. Following high school he attended UNC Chapel Hill from 1968 – 1969 and then transferred to UNC Charlotte where he graduated in 1972 with an undergraduate degree in Physics. In December of 1979 Chuck graduated from UNC Charlotte with a Masters in Business Administration. In 1980 he obtained a Professional Engineer designation from the NC Board of Registration for Engineers and Land Surveyors.
Chuck worked for J.A. Jones Construction Company in Greenfield, Massachusetts as a Safety Engineer from 1972 to 1973. He then returned to Charlotte, NC where he worked for Harold McKnight Engineers before serving with Piedmont Natural Gas for 32 years where he held numerous positions with the company until he retired in 2005 as Vice President of Planning and Rates.
Over the years Chuck served his community in a number of ways. He was head soccer coach for Idlewild Soccer Association from 1974 – 1981. In 2002 - 2004 he was Chair of the American Heart Association’s AED in Police Vehicles Initiative for Mecklenburg County. He also served on the Board of Directors for Community in Schools, representing Piedmont Natural Gas, and during his retirement years he was a volunteer driver for the Shepherd’s Center.
Chuck was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife Regina Enloe Fleenor who he married May 17 2003, his son, Paul Fleenor, his step-daughter, Leanne EW Mattson, two sisters, Lynette Biggers and Judy Hargett, three grandchildren Gabrielle, Izak, and Alexandrina Fleenor, an aunt, Shirley Law, four nieces, four nephews, five great nieces, four great nephews,and his beloved dogs Kahla and Cocoa.
His family will receive friends on Sunday, October 26, 2014, from 1:45-2:45pm at the McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC. The “Celebration of Life” will immediately follow at 3pm in the McEwen Funeral Service Chapel.
