From Norm (memories shared at service)

We are here to celebrate Cheryl's life, a loving mother, sister, friend and companion who brought smiles to everyone she met. Though our hearts are heavy with loss, we are here to remember the love she shared with us. Cheryl savored every moment. Whether she was basking in the sun during our beach vacations or exploring the beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains, she made each experience special. I can remember us walking along the shore, listening to the sounds of the waves as we searched for shells and splashed in the water. Thise beach days were filled with joy and long talks as we watched the sun rise over the horizon-bringing a sense of peace & contentment.  And then there were our adventures driving the parkway, stopping anywhere & everywhere. From Coffee shops singers in Asheville to Mt festivals in Va. Cheryl would immerse herself in the music, sharing laughter w/ new friends. She loved to paint exploring her artistic side.  Even as her health limited her ability to participate in theses adventus in later years, the joy she found in these memories remained with her. As we reflect on those memories, let us hold close the times we shared. Though she may no longer be with us, her spirt lives on in the hearts of all who loved her. I thank her for all the joy and love she brought into my life, and I will miss her deeply.

More family memories from service

Cheryl has two grown sons that she was extremely proud of and loved very much. Dennis & David.
It was known that each Holiday that she would take a photo of Dennis  (the oldest grandson) with the newest baby to the family- So litterly every child has had their pic with Dennis.
David her youngest son was a traveler and often found himself in other states. Cheryl would make a fuss as to where he lived and planned trips to visit him and his family -seeing her grans as often as able.  Cheryl would start in the summer picking things out to order to be boxed and shipped so her babies so David’s children would have Christmas toys from their Nana.  
She loved her own nieces, nephews, grands and siblings and other babies that while working as a nanny she cared for and yes took lots of pics of all of them and of everything. I believe she took pictures of all of God’s creations so she would have a “Captured Memory” of each.
Her truest and everlasting love of her life however was Norm.  If you knew them together you know there are no words- except “special love”.

As a kid, going to Harley shop to visit my Auntie Cheryl while she worked, I recall going on family picnic and planting flowers at granny’s mailbox each season. As an adult her holding my 1st born and hearing her always boost me up telling me how proud she was and that she knew granny and granddaddy were proud too.  Thank You for the strength and encouragement you shared and gave to me.  Much Love- James Henry.
Cheryl was one of the 1st faces I learned outside of my immediate family when I was a child. No one could watch my brother and I except family- usually either Aunt Donna or Aunt Cheryl.
Cheryl had this attachment to her right hand for years- A Camera- she took pictures of everything. I learned to be thankful for that when I was 10 as she took pics of me and we entered them into a modeling contest in Atlanta that ended up with a need for more photos
Head shots and full length shots that Cheryl took for me to use on “ go-sees” in NYC. My mom was only able to go with me the 1st summer I went to do catalog shoots But Auntie Cheryl took me the 2nd summer and stayed with me and kept up with me all around the town! We had loads of fun and she took loads of pictures. Auntie Cheryl always had my best interest at heart. She made sure I was safe and loved at all times. Life would have been so different had she not been a part of it.  It will be different now that she will not be a part of it. Much Love- Jessica

I remember Cheryl’s sense of humor, I loved to joke around with her, and her laugh was so distinctive- if you were in a room filled with people and she was laughing you knew it was her. We will miss her laugh- Here’s to you- Rick Lutz
When I was asked to think about a memory to share I had a hard time choosing one and even harder time trying to keep it short. I have so many wonderful memories of Auntie Cheryl. So I decided rather than share a specific memory I’d share a truth. Maya Angelou’s quote came to mind: people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel”  I will never forget how very loved Auntie Cheryl always made me feel.  She was a ray of sunshine in my life, reflecting God’ love and kindness. I will miss her dearly- Mary Lutz

Remembrances from the service from her family
Being the younger sibling, my childhood memories of my sister Cheryl are limited as she left for college the year I started 1st grade.  But as an adult one memory in particular stands out.
One time right before Christmas I went to visit her and walked into a major cat-tastrofy. Her cast had just pulled down her tree and it was a mess. Cheryl was understandably a bit upset.
However, after we all pitched in and got the mess cleaned up and the tree back up she regained her sense of humor and we all had a long good laugh. Needless to say she informed me later that she didn’t see her cat for about 2 days!  Sis I love you – your brother Billy

I recall how my sister in law always bought books for our kids. She wanted to pass along a love of reading to them.  Thank You – Much Love Mandy

Remembrances from service from her family
My sister was eight years older than me.  I was around 10 or 11 when our Mother, my younger brother Billy and I went to visit Cheryl at Appalachian State. We road up an elevator to the girls dorm. When we stepped off the elevator, Cheryl yelled out “men in the floor” Next we heard slam, slam, slam and slam of door after door all the way down the hallway. When we reached her room, I thought “do you really live in a closet? A single bed and a dresser for clothes and studying.  She opened a drawer and it was full of Gerber Baby jars. Her snack time staple. I think she loved the custard the best!
Another time, in the same decade, Cheryl had an old Oldsmobile. A 50’s model. Billy and I made up a jingle about it to the tune of “Mares eats Oats and does eat Oaks”, “Isabelle’s an Oldsmobile and nothings good about her, except that she runs. Mom and Dad bought us a golden Shetland pony names Trigger. To get him home we took out the back seat of this Old Oldsmobile placed it in the trunk, and coaxed Trigger into the backseat. I was foolish enough to get in the back sea with the horse. Small as Trigger might have been, he was a least 4 timers my weight. Cheryl brought us home safe and sound, I thou I had been squashed and stepped on the whole ride home.  I recall Cheryl couldn’t leave the house without breaking a toe.  I don’t know if it was clumsiness, fate, or karma. Maybe that is why she moved out of the house and into the college dorm.  I have so many memories and sis you will be missed by so many- See you later Love your younger brother Stan.

Remembrances from the service from her friends
From her good friend Coco- I recall her physically carrying me upstairs all over the Appalachian campus when my right knee ended up with stitches our 1st week of classes. No elevator really, a lot of our buildings were built by the building plans during the depression.  I was very thin and she was very strong then and very caring.  She remined a strong and caring friend.

From her good friend Robin- I have a constant memory of just Cheryl and I and an old ragged quilt that was always in Cheryl’s car, in the trunk or back seat, maybe in the closet at home. No matter where we were the old quilt was pulled out.  We would throw on the grass in my backyard or hers and have a small picnic. That quilt went to the beach and to the mountains to pick apples. That quilt was just apart of our lives together. Old and ragged but always there. I wonder what happened to it? There are so many memories of Cheryl and I through 50 years of Best Friends. The quilt was around from the 1st day we met. Cheryl I miss the quilt but miss you more….
Cheryl loved to sing, she sang in the church choir and she sang with all the kids. She would even call us and sing Happy Birthday to you personally on your Birthday.  Cheryl had a joyful spirit.  I was glad to have known her- Judy

Sisters from different parents my dad her mom since 1975. Seems like a lifetime ago, as thru the years we began true sisters and friends. Cheryl was my baby coach and was the 1st to hold both of my children at birth. She taught me to care for my babies and to make biscuits from scratch. Her thought was if you had flour and Crisco in the house your family would never starve.  We often had biscuits and gravy.
Later when the children were older we learned to travel together. Sometime with the kids and often without.  She loved the camera and took pics of all the fun and of all our family. We shared a love of travel an often went to NYC. Cheryl traveled one summer with my daughter Jessica to NYC as she was doing catalogue modeling and I wasn’t able to take another summer off to spend in the City.  While in later years we could not travel together we often spoke of the memories and shared good laughs about the places, people and family along our journey.
My journey took me out of state for several years and Cheryl would always send text to remind me she was waiting for pics of the house, job, flowers and even the snow. She too would send pics of the flowers in her back yard or the birds on the birdfeeder as she still enjoying taking those pics.
I along with so many will miss her terribly. Cheryl I love you- your little sis Melanie

You were a ray of sunshine in my life, your smile and love warmed my heart and soul. Time with you was treasured.  You will be forever in my heart Auntie Cheryl 💗
