Christine Boger Haynes, 88, of Charlotte, NC passed away peacefully on December 13, 2020. She was born August 3, 1932 in Statesville, NC to William J. Boger, Jr. and Mary Hollifield Boger. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Alton Myles Haynes, Jr., and her sister Billie Spinks.
Chris was a beautiful woman inside and out. She was kind, loving, and gracious. She had an outgoing personality, an unassuming impressive intelligence, and a great sense of humor. Chris had a way of making everyone feel special and included. This was reflected in her love for family and her abundant and cherished friendships, many that were lifelong and multigenerational. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She was an avid reader, a good cook, enjoyed traveling, the challenge of a difficult crossword puzzle, and loved watching sports. She was a true Carolina sports fan, always cheering loudest for UNC-CH teams and the Carolina Panthers.
Chris grew up in Whiteville, NC and graduated from Whiteville High School in 1950. She went to the Women’s College of Greensboro (UNC-G) for 2 years. She then moved to Charlotte where she graduated from the Medical Record Technicians program at Charlotte Memorial Hospital.
Chris married Myles Haynes on March 31, 1956. They created a full and rich life in Charlotte during their 58 years together. She was a devoted wife and mother of 3 children and later loved being “Grandma”. She was an active member of Sharon United Methodist Church, and was involved in multiple community organizations and charities. Her generous and compassionate nature ensured that she never missed an opportunity to volunteer or help someone in need. She returned to the workforce when her children were older and excelled at all of her professional pursuits including teaching computer programming at ECPI, real estate, and commercial printing sales.
Chris is survived by her three children, Tripp Haynes, Beth Haynes and Bob Haynes; two grandchildren, Brandon Field (Allison) and Cameron Haynes; and two great grandchildren, Mary Courland Field and Joshua Field. She is also survived by her sister Fran Morrison and her brother Bob Boger.
Memorials in Chris’s honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Parkinson’s Foundation, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Due to safety concerns during the covid-19 pandemic, there will not be a service at this time. A celebration of her life will be scheduled in the future. An online guestbook is available for the Haynes family at www.mcewenpinevillechapel.com.
