Cynthia (Cindy) Lee Cochran of Charlotte, NC, beloved daughter and sister, passed away peacefully at Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster on November 5, 2014. She was in the presence of her family while her favorite music played in the background.
Cindy was born in Charlotte on April 17, 1952, the daughter of Emilee Hinds Cochran (Lamb) and the late James Ralph Cochran, Sr. She completed elementary school at Berryhill Elementary, the same school her dad and brother attended. She was a part of the first graduating class of Olympic High School where she greatly enjoyed participating in Glee Club. After attending CPCC, Cindy went on to find her lifelong vocation at Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library System where she worked for 38 years, mostly at the Independence Branch. Always a valued team member, she received an award for Employee of the Year in 2007. She made many friends at the library and thought of them as her extended family.
Cindy coped with several serious health issues since 2005. She faced them resolutely and without complaint. Through it all, her spirit and sense of humor remained strong.
The family is appreciative of the compassionate care provided to Cindy by Dr. Ilan D. Avin and Dr. John A. Kirkland, Jr., the entire staff at Carolinas Specialty Hospital, and especially the staff at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, Southminster. The family is also grateful for the love and support from her entire library family, including Monal Shah, Alice Arazia, Porter Taggart, Kevin Deese, Mary Lou Brown and many others too numerous to list.
Cindy leaves her mother, Emilee Hinds Cochran Lamb, and her brother James R. Cochran Jr. and wife Kelly to cherish her memory. Other survivors include maternal cousins Sabrina Smith, Marc Skipper, and Michelle Sharp and many members of the Cochran and Burgess families.
A service to celebrate the life of Cynthia Cochran will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 9, 2014, at McEwen Chapel on Monroe Road, followed by a reception. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 1:00 PM. McEwen Funeral Service is providing care for the family.
Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Charlotte, 1420 East 7th Street, Charlotte, NC 28204. Online condolences and notes of sympathy may be left at www.mcewenfs.com.
