

Daniel Hydrick Porter, 86 of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2017, surrounded by family and friends. Daniel was born on December 6, 1930 to William Preston Porter and Vera Peeler Porter in Blacksburg, SC.
Dan owned Porter Fabrication and Porter Enterprise for over 50 years. He also started Porterlator Wood Stoves. His hobby was his work, and through this he made many wonderful friends and employees alike.
Dan was a member of Westview Baptist Church since 1949, and remained active until his passing. He also served as a deacon; he loved serving his Lord and helping those in his church community.
Dan served in the army and was a Mason in the St. Andrew Masonic Lodge.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 50 plus years, Geraldine Whitehead Porter; and sister, Virginia Malone. He is survived by his children: Helen Porter, Donald Porter and wife Linda, Ronald Porter, Brenda Lewis and husband Steve; grandchildren: Danny Sparrow and wife Lori, Lisa McGarr and husband Chris, Robert Sparrow and wife Connie, Melissa Smith and husband Darren, Preston Lewis and wife Jennifer, Chad Porter, Josh Porter, and John Branch and wife Juliana; and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, Heyward Porter and Woodrow Porter; and sisters, Bobbie Brown, Sara Zachary and Myrtis Bowen; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Sunday, August 6 at 2:00pm in the Paul Helton Chapel at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home; Reverend John Ray to officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior at 1:00pm. Interment immediately following the service in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
Dan was grateful for many years of wonderful family, friends and employees. He will be missed by many. The family would like to express a special thanks to Nancy Bedgood, a close friend and caretaker; Dr. George Raad at Park Road Medical, and to Hospice & Palliative Care Charlotte Region.
