Daryl Gene Carpenter, 83, of Charlotte, NC passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2024. Born October 17, 1940 in Charlotte, he was the son of the late Theron F. and Muriel (Holton) Carpenter. He married Linda Barber on May 6, 2017 in Charlotte.
A graduate of West Mecklenburg High, he continued his education at Cincinnati College of Embalming. After graduating from college he started his funeral career at Miller and Kerns Funeral Home in 1963. He later worked for Thurston Motor Lines, Southeastern Freight Lines until his retirement in 2005. In 2009 Daryl came out of retirement and started a second career in the funeral industry with Forest Lawn West Funeral Home as a part-time funeral assistant until his retirement in April of 2024. He was a longtime member of Durham Memorial Baptist Church.
He enjoyed numerous trips to Kure Beach with his wife Linda, watching investigative shows on tv and spending time with his dog, Chico.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Carpenter; sons, Jeff and Brian (Annette) Carpenter; step-son, Michael Odom; step-daughters, Lisa Williams and Ashley (Jansen) Barber; granddaughters, Savannah Carpenter and Sarah Carpenter; great-grandson, Kaison Carpenter; and four step-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Daryl was preceded in death by his twin sister, Carroll C. Bussey in 2005.
