David Wayne Ervin

Born June 17, 1952 in Statesville, NC, he was a son of the late Everette Vernon Ervin, Jr. and Estalene Compton Ervin. Following graduation from North Mecklenburg High School he spent the majority of his working career at Overnite Transportation where he was affectionately called “Jelly Roll” by some of his coworkers.

Wayne’s greatest enjoyment was shooting sports where he excelled in skeet shooting. He also enjoyed chess, bowling, fishing and hunting. He loved race cars and was a highly skilled mechanic.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Dawn Neitzke Ervin; three siblings, Gary Ervin (Jane Ann) of Advance, Alice Ervin Ward of Troutman, and Mark Ervin (Sheila) of Charlotte; as well as twelve nieces and nephews.

Wayne’s family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 14 at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel.
