Mr. Wright was born on March 3, 1953 in Houston, Texas, to the late Ernest Bicknell Wright and to Ann Graburn Wright. He was the oldest of Ann Wright’s three sons and one of her and Don Jones six combined offspring. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marcia, Ann (mother) and Donald Jones (stepfather) of Charlotte, and brothers, William L. Wright, ( Beth), Gary Jones, (Mary Lynn), sisters, Donna Dean and Becky Parmer, (Curt), Aunt Charlotte Osgood, Uncle William Graburn (Joan), Uncle Lynne Graburn, nieces and nephews, Angela Burch, Zach Wright, Alex Wright, Bryan Wright, Anna Marie Wright, Dylan Wright, Loren Fitchett, Josh Jones, Hunter Parmer, Landon Parmer and a host of wonderful relatives, friends and his dog Sabai Dee. He was preceded in death by another brother, Jeffrey G. Wright, (Joanne.)
Mr. Wright grew up in Charlotte and graduated from Charlotte Country Day School in 1971. He received his bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Trained as a location analyst with degrees in Economic Geography, he worked for several large master-planned community developments, including North Harbor at Davidson, University Place, Highland Creek, and Lakeshore at Tega Cay, concluding his career at Newland Communities of La Jolla, California as the Carolinas division president at the time of his retirement.
David was a strong believer in conservation, a mentor in the love of nature and pursued a variety of outdoor activities including hosting the annual Audubon Lake Norman Winter Count Talley. He never let health issues stop him from enjoying our National Parks and remote areas of natural beauty.
Mr. Wright’s family offers sincere appreciation to the doctors and medical professionals, especially Dr. Ben Hippen and Dr. Scott Lindblohm whose tireless efforts helped to extend and improve David’s life. Thanks also, for the wide network of prayers given for his recoveries. David had received his first of two transplanted kidneys in the year 2000, another in 2006. David tried to put medical staff at ease with his wit.
A celebration of his life is planned on Oct. 22, 2016 from 1:00 PM to 5: 00 PM at his home in Cornelius, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to The Catawba Lands Conservancy, 4530 Park Rd, Suite 420, Charlotte, NC, 28209.
