

Debra McCrary, 74, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 26, 2025. The Daughter of the late Paul Jr. and Bobbie Thompson, was born August 29, 1951, in Charlotte, N.C. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.
Debra graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1969 and attended University of Georgia and UNC Charlotte. She worked at North Carolina National Bank and its successors through Bank of America for 40 years; retiring as a Senior Vice President. She was part of the Friday Night Dinner Crowd consisting of friends from Bank of America who went to dinner around Charlotte every Friday night after work and frequently traveled together. The group grew to over 20 people through the years and they continued the dinner and traveling traditions even after retirement.
Debra was a lifelong member of Cook’s Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was active with the Viewpoint Sunday School Class and where she met many great friends. She loved to travel with her husband on cruises and on any trip to Aruba. Debra was one of those special people who never met a stranger and quickly became friends with everyone she encountered. She was passionate about many causes, especially those involving children, pets, and veterans.
Debra is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Charles; son Cameron McCrary (Melissa) of Lancaster, S.C.; son Austin McCrary Sr. (Clara) of Garner, N.C.; grandsons Jackson Paul McCrary of Lancaster, S.C. and Austin Thompson McCrary Jr. of Garner, N.C.; along with a multitude of aunts, uncles and cousins of multiple generations.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Bobbie Thompson, and brother and sister-in-law Brian and Karen Thompson, all of Charlotte, N.C.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Novant Huntersville and Novant Presbyterian Hospitals for their compassionate care through the last month of Deb’s life.
A funeral service for Debra will be held on Tuesday, December 30 at 1:00 p.m., in the sanctuary of Cook’s Memorial Presbyterian Church, 3413 Mt. Holly-Huntersville Road, Charlotte, NC, with Pastor Jason Bryant officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family will follow in the church Fellowship Hall.
