Donald Elliott, 82, of Charlotte, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2011 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Charlotte NC on April 18, 1929 to Jule and Lucille Elliott. A Charlottean all his life, he graduated from Long Creek High School, then joined the Army Engineers receiving his Honorable Discharge at Fort Belvoir, VA in November 1948. He married and was with his bride Pauline Hargett Elliott until the very end, celebrating 63 years of marriage on April 9, 2011. Together they raised three daughters which he lovingly referred to as “#1, #2, and #3”. He was a car salesman at Fort Mill Ford, left there at retirement but continued as a self-employed car salesman where he made many friends that so enriched those last years of his “working retirement”.
Donald loved the Atlanta Braves, making many trips with his wife to Atlanta for baseball games and to Florida for the teams spring training. He also loved pier fishing making as many trips as he could to Sunset Beach, NC with his fishing buddies. His family would tell you that the best part of those fishing trips was the “fish fry” afterwards. He loved to cook and was quite the grill master. But most of all, he loved his family.
Donald is predeceased by his sister Shirley Mauney, and his eldest daughter Donna Turbeville. He is survived by his loving wife Pauline; daughters, Julie (Bill) Yandell and Ginny (John) Kight and son-in-law Horace (Martha) Turbeville. He was “Pop-Pop” to his five grandchildren; Caroline (Scott) Van Dyken, Elliott (Angela)Turbeville, Chris Yandell, Eric ( Heather) Turbeville, Matt Kight, and seven great-grandchildren.
