Donald Vernon Hamilton

Donald Vernon Hamilton, born March 13, 1940, in Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on November 30, 2025. A proud United States Air Force officer and veteran, Don served his country for 20+ years, including assignments in the U.S., Germany, and Vietnam.

An avid runner, devoted reader, and lover of classical music, Don was known for his curiosity, humor, and passion for history and aviation. He valued good conversation and had a gift for teaching and sharing wisdom.

After his military career, Don settled in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1986, where he built a life centered on family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Marsha; his children Chris (Holley), Eryck (Kirstan), Matt (Traci), and Helen; his grandchildren Patrick, Maggie, Gracen, Hayes, Westphal, Solomon, Campbell, and Madeleine Vial; and his brothers Ronald (Sandra), Kenneth (Faye), and Scott (Stephanie).

He will be deeply missed and forever cherished by all who knew and loved him. Boots and saddles, Big D; until we meet again.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, located at 3016 Providence Rd, Charlotte, NC, 28211, on December 5, 2025, at 11:00 am.

Following the funeral, a committal service will take place at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Rd, Mint Hill, NC, 28227, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on the same day.
