I just found out about Don’s passing. He lived across the street from me a little while in Charlotte. He was super friendly, thoughtful and loved God’s creatures and creation. He was always planting something  ( thank you for sharing your tomato plant). and cared for his dog and even chickens. He would pay for my sons to cut his yard, but they had little experience starting out, so Don had to guide them a bit.  Don was patient, and believed that this little opportunity would instill good habits and perseverance.  Thank you, Don. For everything you meant to me and my kids.

My memory is of the young Donny, one of my son Charlie's first school-days (well, preschool) friends in Maryland. The MacKercher kids and Charlie spent many a happy day playing at each other's houses, celebrating birthdays, trips to McDonald's. Even the camping trip where we met in the middle between Charlotte and Crofton at a lakeside park in southern Virginia. Donny, six months younger than Charlie, was the lovable goof, always a smile on his face, never intimidated by the older kids in this "tribe". To look at his photo now, I still see that kid and it's bittersweet to read his adult friends describe the still-smiling, friendly, dog-loving adult Donny.

Mr. Don! We met 17 years ago at SharpTop Cove via Young Life. From the moment we met you’ve been a light for everyone around you.  It’s never easy to stomach when someone young and full of potential is taken from the world. The higher ups have a plan for us all, and I hope your family can find peace. Thank you for the great memories, looking forward to meeting again some day! 

Donny was such a great guy. He was always a pleasure to speak to and work with.  When I say work with, I called him the Mulch foremen. He and his buds would spread mulch every year at the Bridgehampton house where he and all his friends would come and spend time together.

I just saw Donny a few months ago walking down my street with his dog and found out that we lived a street apart. We talked about Chickens and Roosters. I never lacked conversation with Donny. He will be missed by me and my family. We love you Donny, until we meet again!

Donny, where do I start…my heart is heavy. The years and the memories shared having you as a part of the gang of Ardrey Kell kids hanging at our house, and your incredible work ethic that Greg never stopped talking about. For me, you were always a beam of light…your smile and your eagerness to always say a few words wherever we were was always so sweet. May you Rest In Heavenly Peace young man, until we meet again.🙏🏻❤️

My son, Ben Todd, was a close friend of Donny, from high school through Ole Miss. I send my deepest condolences to the family. Donny was always a ray of sunshine and a joy to those who knew him.

Our family's hearts ache for all who loved and knew Donny.  We are better for having known and have wonderful memories with him. Our memories of Donny are his wit, personality, kindness, and that smile (always). We extend our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

I write this with a heavy heart. Donny and my daughter(Carley) were boy/girl friends in high school, and part of college at Ole Miss. I could write a book about all the fun times we all had. From Myrtle Beach, to the grove for Ole Miss football games. Donny always had a smile or that little smirk!! He was a good kid and friend. Never had any enemies. He would occasionally call to just check in. I never know the correct thing to say in times like this, but he had hundred of friends that will miss his great personality and friendship. My condolences to the family.

I met Don at my son's house several times he was very kind & polite, he spoke about his family with excitement, he loved you so much! My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Aiden shared how much he liked Donny after hanging out with him at Beth and Robby's gender reveal party. He said, "I just remember he was soooo nice to me and Luca!" Donny went over to the boys while they were standing in the yard and began to "sword" fight them with tree branches. He spent a good chunk of that party playing with both Luca and Aiden as if he were their ages. That is an amazing memory the boys will always have to cherish of Donny!
