Donnie Dale Southerland

Born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on December 2, 1940, Donnie resided here his entire life. Donnie loved scuba diving, restoring and customizing cars and trucks, and watching NASCAR. He was a man of simple tastes, few words and an amazing mechanical mind. He loved deeply, though only spoke a fraction of that with a “same to you” or “ditto”.

Donnie is predeceased by his loving wife Sue Southerland, parents Forbis and Inda Southerland, sister Patsy, and brother James “Pete” Southerland.

He is survived by his sons Ronnie Southerland and Ricky Southerland, wife Katherine Southerland. Grandchildren Michael Bazik, fiancée Anne Marie, Vincent Southerland, wife Jena, Jason Southerland, and his only granddaughter Madison Southerland. Donnie is also survived by his sister Barbara, sister-in-law Ruth Southerland, beloved nieces, nephews, and their families. Donations can be made in Donnie's honor to the Children’s Hospital at Duke.

Family will receive friends on Friday, September 12, 2025 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at McEwen Derita Chapel, 6300 Mallard Creek Road, Charlotte, NC 28262. Donnie will be laid to rest the following day at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.
