Dorothy Beacham Porter

Dorothy Beacham Porter, 94, of Charlotte, passed away on April 24, 2020. Born on September 26 in Athens, GA, she was the daughter of Calvin Henry and Leila Bell Beacham. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, William McGinn Porter, Jr. (Bill), son W. David Porter, daughter Carol Lynn Porter all of Charlotte, and brother J. Addison Beacham of Athens, GA.

Dot graduated from Berryhill High School and Spencerian Business School. She was employed by Jefferson Standard Life Insurance Company and later by the Bank of Commerce, where she was secretary to the President.

She and her husband Bill were charter members of both Providence Baptist Church and Carmel Baptist Church, where for over 13 years, she enjoyed teaching three-year preschoolers in Sunday School. She was also an active member of The Women’s Missionary Society.

She is survived by her niece Jan Beacham Blakeslee, nephew Jim Beacham (Lassie), great niece Shay Blakeslee Parker (Jason), great nephew Addison Blakesee, great-great nephews Carson, Jase and Davis Parker all from the Atlanta, GA area. Also, cousins, Doug and Risa DeShields, and Steve and Jeannine Williams of Charlotte.

A memorial service for immediate family will be held on Monday August 28 at 11am. Interment will be private.
