

Edgar Alvin Wright (Ed) died on March 9, 2016. Ed, 93 and a life-long resident of Charlotte, was a member of the Central High School class of 1941. He enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the destroyer USS Renshaw during World War II. After he was discharged, he returned to Charlotte to be married and to work in the family business, Wright Cleaning Co., which his father founded in 1920. Ed retired and closed the business in 1995. He was a past member of the North Carolina Laundry and Dry Cleaning Association, where he served as president of the local chapter and on the state board. He was a 32nd degree Master Mason and a former member of the Oasis Temple, Joppa Lodge Number 530 and the Red Fez Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Ed was predeceased by his parents, Edgar and LauRea Wright; his wife, Sybil Wright; and his sisters, Janet Faison and Phyllis Samson. His immediate survivors are his daughter, Rebecca Wright; his sons, Al Wright (Laura) and Phil Wright (Linda); his granddaughters, Lindsey Wright and Lauren Austin (Jon); his great-grandsons, Mason and Gabe Austin; and his sister, Rosemarie Twogood. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00am at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte, NC.
