In addition to loving her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Edna had a passion for the performing arts. She played piano and organ and shared her beautiful voice by singing in numerous church choirs through the years. She instilled a love of music in all three of her children. Edna was a member of the Mecklenburg County Literacy Council in Charlotte, where she served as president. She also tutored students in the Laubach Reading Method, helping uplift lives out of poverty. She had a special place in her heart for the underprivileged and consistently came alongside them to be of help.
Edna is survived by her daughters, Jane Anglin of Fort Mill, SC, and Virginia Anglin of Jacksonville, NC. She is also survived by her grandsons, Philip Anglin of Morganton, NC, and David (Tatiana) Anglin of Houston, TX, as well as her great-grandson, Benicio "Benny" Anglin of Houston, TX. Edna is also survived by her nieces, Melissa Henley and Donna Henley of Atlanta, GA, and her granddaughters, Sarah Anglin of New York City and Rachel Anglin of Washington State. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence J Henley and Kendrick Henley, as well as her brother, Steve Henley, and her son, Bob Anglin.
Edna attended O'Keefe High in Atlanta, GA, where she pursued courses in Accounting. She had a long and successful career in the mortgage business in Charlotte, where she was a respected figure for many years. In 1980 she was named Mortgage Banker of the Year by the Charlotte Mortgage Bankers Association. Edna took a 3-year sabbatical from mortgage lending to sell real estate, where she frequently won the highly coveted Salesperson of the Month award. Her reward was use of the Company "Gold Card," with which she treated friends and family to some very swanky meals. Edna's dedication and expertise in her field left a lasting impact on those she worked with.
Edna worshipped at Church at Charlotte, where she was a member of the choir, the Omega Class, and the Saturday morning GEMS Ladies Group. Church played an important role throughout Edna’s life and she found solace and strength in her faith. Grace Life International, a Christian counseling ministry, was also important to Edna. Through GLI, she was introduced to the Mid Carolina Tres Dias Community (De Colores!) where she joyfully served for many years. See www.mctd.net for more information.
In her leisure time, Edna enjoyed gardening, playing Scrabble, and embarking on road trips to the North Carolina and Virginia mountains. In addition to seeing the Rockies via rail and cruising Alaska, she also travelled to the Holy Land twice. Edna’s true indulgence, however, was enjoying her favorite treats – ginger snaps, fudge, ice cream, pralines and Trios Restaurant’s Almond Basket dessert.
Edna’s family especially wishes to thank her care teams with Via Health Partners Palmetto Region, The Blake at Edgewater and Chester Nursing Center, as well as Patricia Melancon, former owner of Sweet Caroline Assisted Living located in Shelby, NC.
