He departed this life on August 23, 2022, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Ed was a graduate of DeVry University; earning a degree in Telecommunication Management in 1991; and he enjoyed a distinguished career working in Cyber Security. Ed's career was marked by both variety and consistency. Early in his career, he worked with a custom supply chain management system at Ryerson Steel. At Sara Lee he worked as an internal consultant on various telecom and networking projects. At Apple, Ed engineered and delivered end-to-end networking solutions for sales and field support offices. In the late 1990s, Ed supported the Capital Management Group division of First Union National Bank through the design, implementation and operational support of desktop, client/server and mainframe systems. It was also during the late 1990s that Ed shared his knowledge and love of technology with his students as he moonlighted as a professor at ECPI. For the first decade of the 2000’s Ed worked for Network Solutions (later bought by Symantec) as their Identity and Access Management Practice Leader. Ed finished his career at Mythics where for 12 years he served as a Project Manager and Senior Operations Director supporting numerous clients which included Mecklenburg County, Pace Suburban Bus, FDNY, US Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Pentagon. Through his work he had opportunities to travel the world professionally.
The rock-solid consistency of Ed's career comes to life with how he did things. No matter the company, client, timeline, project, thick or thin…Ed was Ed. He always gave the best of himself. His colleagues and clients will forever be grateful to him for his dedication, appetite for excellence and fierce loyalty to both client and company interests. Whatever the task and with whoever he was engaged his wonderful heart shone through. Ed was a beloved member of the Mythics Team, who has been greatly missed since his retirement in the fall of 2021.
Ed had a heart for service and volunteerism. His giving spirit and the drive to create awareness for the organizations near and dear to his heart led him to serve on the Board of Executives for LifeShare Of The Carolinas. His love for animals resulted in him often taking those animals he found in peril to the Carolina Raptor Center, who would nurse them back to health.
As a native Chicagoan, who was so very proud of his Polish heritage, Ed loved all things from the Windy City, namely, the Bears, deep dish pizza and Italian Beef sandwiches (he prided himself a foodie and bourbon connoisseur). He also loved to travel, explore new places and meet new people.
Ed had an easy and welcoming smile, a great sense of humor; and his optimism and positive outlook on life was infectious. You couldn’t help but be happy when you were around him. He was kind and generous; and while, he faced many challenges, he never let them define who he was. He handled it all with grace, dignity and strength. Ed never wanted anyone to feel sorry for him; and, in fact, he was intentional about making sure that those around him felt supported, loved and cared for.
Ed married Elizabeth Buraglio on June 26, 2021 and theirs was a union filled with love, admiration, laughter, and marathon binge watching of all things HGTV and cooking competition shows. They spent their weekends at his beloved cabin, “Sky Catcher Lodge”, in West Jefferson, entertaining friends, feeding the deer and overlooking the scenic view.
Ed will truly be missed by all who had the opportunity to be a part of the life of this amazing man. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife Elizabeth, and a close-knit group of family members and beloved friends.
A celebration of Ed's life will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday, August 27th in the chapel of McEwen Funeral Service - Pineville, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. His family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given, in Ed’s name, to the Carolina Raptor Center or The Salvation Army.
