It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edward James McCabe on Thursday, August 29, 2024, due to heart failure. Born and raised in Floral Park (Long Island), NY, Edward lived a full and adventurous life, marked by his passion for family and his dedication to his grandchildren.
A proud Marine who served during the Korean War, Edward was honored in the book "Hey Mac, Where Ya Been?" with a chapter dedicated to his experience during the Chosin Reservoir Campaign of 1950 and support of the "Chosin Few." His free spirit was evident in his love for Syracuse lacrosse (he played with the legendary Jim Brown and coach Roy Simmons, Sr.), road trips, sailboats and his enthusiasm for home projects. Whether he was "fixing" something, watching lacrosse, collecting sailboats, or enjoying the music of Frank Sinatra, Band Music, or Aretha Franklin, Edward approached life with an infectious joy and pride. There was nothing he enjoyed more than meeting new people and finding a connection with them. And, boy could he spin a yarn!
He is survived by his eldest daughter, Robin McCabe; his middle son"s, Peter McCabe;and, Kevin McCabe, his youngest daughter Susan McCabe, and his daughter-in-law, Meg McCabe; and his three beloved grandchildren, Liam McCabe, Kerrigan McCabe, and Ronan McCabe. Edward is also survived by the mother of his children, Trenna Voziou, as well as his nieces, Barbara Sherry and Jennifer Glenn, and nephew, Robert Sherry.
Edward was cherished as a father, grandfather, and friend. His legacy of love and dedication will be remembered by all who knew him. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched with his kindness, humor, and unwavering support.
A celebration of Edward’s life will be held in New York in November. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his honor to the Diabetes Foundation or the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
