Eileen Jones Steadman

Eileen was born December 9, 1941 to the late Darby Osgood Jones and Eileen Davis Jones in Charleston, SC. She grew up in Adams Run, SC graduating from Saint Paul’s High School in 1959, and then attended Columbia College in Columbia, SC earning a B.A. in Education in 1963.

She married James (Jim) Steadman on June 30, 1963 in Adams Run, SC and they settled in Charleston, SC, until in 1971 the family moved to Charlotte, NC. Eileen taught elementary school in Charleston, SC, and when she moved to Charlotte, NC she first taught at Briarwood Elementary, then at Mathews Elementary until her retirement. Afterwards she spent several years as a part time teacher with talent development in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. She was loved by her fellow teachers and the many young students she taught over her distinguished career spanning from the early 1970s to the early 2000s.

Eileen is survived by her sister Margaret Jones McCord of Charleston, SC and her two children and families: James (Jay) Steadman and wife, Jennifer Merritt Steadman, Alexandria, VA, and Susan Eileen Steadman, Charleston, SC. Two granddaughters: Molly Eileen Steadman and Merritt Elyse Steadman, Alexandria, VA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jim Steadman who passed away in October 2017.

A memorial service and reception for Eileen will be held Saturday, May 7, 2022 at 5:00 PM at McEwen Funeral Service-Pineville Chapel, 10500 Park Road, Charlotte, NC 28210. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 4, 2022 at 11:00 am at Christ Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church Cemetery, Chapel Road, Meggett, SC.
