

Charlotte - Eleanor Carr Boyd (Babbie), 97, passed away on September 10, 2017 at home at The Cypress. She was born on July 5, 1920 in Durham, NC, a daughter of Mary Lou Williams Carr and Dr. Henry Calhoun Carr, and wife to her beloved, late husband Harry Morgan Boyd.
Babbie graduated with a degree in Music from Salem College. She was involved with music into her early 90's. From teaching music for two years, to being in the Myers Park Presbyterian Church choir with Harry for over 20 years, to working with children's choirs and the hand bell ringers. She was President of the Charlotte Symphony Women's Group and attended the Symphony and Opera into her 90's. A tireless worker within the church, she served as an Elder, teacher, Stephens Minister and President of the Women of the Church, receiving the Honorary Lifetime Membership Award in recognition of her outstanding service. Babbie and Harry served as Directors of Youth at Myers Park Presbyterian Church and as Senior High Advisors for 18 years.
Babbie was predeceased by her husband of 48 years and her granddaughter, Claire Marie Boyd. She is survived by her sister, Frances Carr Parker of Kinston, NC; sons, Harry M. (Mary Ann) Boyd of Cincinnati, Robert C. (Beth) Boyd of Charlotte, Daniel S. (Mary) Boyd of Charlotte and David H. (Cindy) Boyd of Matthews. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren: Carr (Betsy) Boyd of Winston-Salem, Brantley (Tim) Siegel of Ashburn, VA, Caroline (Neil) Foto of Waxhaw, Bradley (Shannon) Boyd of Oahu, HI, James Boyd of Cincinnati, Chrystine, Stokes and Morgan Boyd of Charlotte, Madison (Justin) Clarke of Charlotte and Hannah Boyd of Matthews; also eight great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
The family would like to thank Cypress Home Care and Hospice of Charlotte for the excellent care and services they provided Babbie. We also thank her primary CNA's, Lisa Rodriguez, Robin Lindsay-Davis, Rosemary Afrifa-Akwamoah, Yolande Tso Tidzem, Jasmine Jones, LaShawn Gladden and Aleshia Anderson.
The service to honor Babbie's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, September 15th at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, 2501 Oxford Place, Charlotte. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Parlor, and again from 4:30 until 6:00 p.m. at The Cypress Clubhouse, 3442 Cypress Club Drive, Charlotte.
