Eleanor was born on December 30, 1938, in Bethlehem CT to the late Olaf Anderson and Iris M. Anderson Metcalf. She was the youngest of eleven children that included five brothers – Carl, Buddy, William, Richard, and Robert Anderson and five sisters – Anna Guiles, Ellen Collins, Olivia McKeller, Jeanne Jannetty, and Elizabeth Spina.
Eleanor spent her childhood in her hometown of Bethlehem before marrying her husband, William J. Paige, on December 3, 1960. Thereafter, they moved to Danbury where she began her life as wife and mother.
Daughters Pamela and Suzanne brought such love and joy to her life. They were her world. As her daughters got older, Eleanor would begin taking on housekeeping jobs for families in her community. Some of her notable clients included Harold Susnitzky, owner of “The Cigar Store” and Robert and Phyllis Garavel , Roger Gavigan and Rodney Bordeau who were all associated with Cornel Memorial Home. She would care not only for their personal homes, but for the business as well. Her client list continued to grow with the addition of the Brede family and their business, “Kitchens by Brede,” the Vice President of Avon Corporation and Madison Avenue lawyer.
Eleanor enjoyed family time with her siblings and enjoyed Sunday rides in the country. When William joined the National Guard, Eleanor would plan vacation time for her girls while their father was gone for two weeks of training. One summer, William got a ride home from a young member of the National Guard. This young man, Karl Hunt would date Pamela and soon become the son-in-law. Pamela married Karl on August 11, 1979.
After the wedding Pam and Karl stayed in the Danbury area for seven months before making their move to California where they would raise their two sons and call California “Home” for over 45 years.
Suzanne would graduate high school and go on to college. After graduation she would return home and begin her career in retail. In 1992, Suzanne left home and began traveling with her Retail career ending up in Charlotte NC by 1997.
William passed away on January 30,1999 leaving Eleanor alone in a big old house.
By Christmas of 2001, the decision to move mom became inevitable. Eleanor would move to Charlotte NC in January of 2002. She lived with Suzanne and Karen until June of 2024 when she became a resident of Spring Oak memory Care in York, SC. Eleanor’s progression of Alzheimer/Dementia had become too much to manage at home. She remained at Spring Oak until her passing.
Eleanor is survived by her daughters Pamela Hunt of Southlake, CA, and Suzanne Paige of Charlotte NC; son-in-law Karl Hunt and Karen McGloughlin, Suzanne’s longtime friend.
Also left to mourn her loss are her grandsons William Hunt, wife Vonnie Hunt of Wofford Heights, CA and their daughters Lillian and Madison Hunt and Michael Hunt, wife Meghan Hunt of Queen Creek, AZ and their son Brandon Hunt; sisters-in-law Patricia Paige Graham, husband Robert Graham and Jacqueline Anderson and a host of nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased in death by her parents, stepfather Jesse Metcalf, brothers Carl, Buddy, William, Richard, and Robert Anderson; sisters Anna Guiles, Ellen Collins, Olivia McKeller, Jeanne Jannetty, and Elizabeth Spina.
We would like to extend our thanks to Agape Hospice of South Carolina and the staff at Spring Oak, York SC. Many of the staff had a special bond with mom, and for that we are so very thankful!
