

Gene was born in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Eugene Lewis Keller and the late Ursula Kennedy Keller.
Gene attended Clemson College when it was a military school.
Gene began his career as manager of Morrison’s Cafeteria. He then became vice-president of the Admiral Benbow Inn for 23 years retiring in 1975. He owned and operated Keller Ornamental Iron for 34 years.
Gene was a huge Clemson fan. He was also an avid golfer and was a member of the Raintree Country Club for 35 years.
Gene was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Charles Connor.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Helen Kline Keller (fondly known by Gene as Madame Queen); his children, Eugene L. Keller, Jr., Charlotte, NC; Susan Pittman (David), Raleigh, NC; and Donna Abbott (Reggie), Savannah, GA; his granddaughter, Sarah Pittman, Raleigh; and his nephew, Charles R. “Bob” Connor, Jr. (Lynda).
A Celebration of Gene’s Life will be held on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 3715 Rea Road, in Charlotte. Pastor Judi Hunt will officiate.
The family would like to thank Hospice and Mahesh Duggal, MD, and the staff of Sardis Oaks, Angela, Ta, Erna, Louise, Yolanda, Nate, Andrew, and Gwen just to name a few, for their excellent care.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Gene’s memory may be directed to the Wesley United Methodist Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
