Jean Smith Cooke, age 80 of Charlotte passed away June 1, 2014 at the home of her daughter. Funeral services will be at 11:00AM Wednesday, June 4th in the Paul Helton Chapel of Forest Lawn West, Pastor Suzanne Michaels officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service (10-11AM). Interment will follow in Forest Lawn West Cemetery. Mrs. Cooke was born September 28, 1933 in New Market, Va. and was a graduate of Handley High School in Winchester, Va. Surviving are a daughter< Carolyn Jean Beard of Charlotte, grandchildren, Mary Beard Watts (Randy) of Denver, NC, Allison Cooke and Meredith Cooke of Alexandria, Va and Elizabeth Economos of Charlotte, sisters, Shirley Barnhart (Roger) of Martinsburg, Va. and Barbara Hostler (Jimmy) of Winchester, Va., and a brother, Clyde Vance, Jr. (Barbara) of Winchester, Va. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Owen and Francis Louise Minnick Smith, husband, Joe Yates Cooke, Sr., sons, Joe Yates Cooke, Jr. and Tommy Edward Cooke, one brother, three sisters and two grandsons.
