Faye Black Deese

Mrs. Deese, age 88, of Charlotte, went to be with God at 5:00 PM Saturday, April 7, 2012 after suffering a fall in her home on Thursday, April 5, 2012.

Faye was born February 1, 1924 in Burnsville, North Carolina the daughter of the late Joseph Ernest Black and Ida Elizabeth Black.

She was one of eight children; six daughters and two sons. She is survived by three of her sisters Pearl B. Lankford of Charlotte, June B. Wilson of Old Fort, NC, and Barbara Jean Silver and husband Don of Glenwood, NC; and two sisters-in-law, Evern C. Black and Lois F. Black of Marion, NC.

She was married twice, first to the late Reverend Herman Martin of Calvary Baptist Church in War, WV, and current husband Walter Kirkwood Deese. She is survived by a daughter, Roberta and husband James Zink of Rockwell, NC; a son, Ronald and wife Priscilla Martin of Jacksonville, FL; three grandsons, Jamey (Crystal) and Robbey Zink (Amy) and Fletcher Martin; a granddaughter, Dr Sharon Segrest; and 5 great grand children, Ryan, Carter and Caleb Zink; Aiden Segrest; and Courtney Holsheuser.

In life she was a child of God; devoted wife, mother, teacher and world traveler. She taught English and literature at Big Creek High School in War, WV for six years. Then in Charlotte where she taught English and literature at Garinger High School for 24 years. She is also survived by the many students she taught.

While a widow and raising two children she attended Concord College, Athens, WV, where she graduated Suma Cum Laude with a B.A. in History and a minor in English. Then attained her Masters of Fine Arts in English at Marshall University while teaching at Big Creek High School.

A visitation will be in the fellowship hall at Midwood Baptist Church at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 10 with the funeral at 11:00 AM in the church sanctuary. Interment will follow at Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery.
