

A celebration of her life service, with reception for family and friends following, will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1900 The Plaza, on Friday, October 22 at 2:00 PM. Mrs. Mozingo was born February 24, 1919, the daughter of P.L. (“Pink”) Poovey and Grace Miller Poovey, in Granite Falls, NC.
She graduated from Granite Falls High School and then attended Appalachian State Teachers College (now ASU), graduating in 1941. She was employed by Kannapolis City Schools for 2 years.
During World War II she went to Washington, DC and was employed by the War Department. At this time, she met and married Hugh Lee Mozingo, Jr. When he received a medical discharge from the Navy in July of 1944, they both moved to Charlotte, NC.
Later Mrs. Mozingo was employed by the Charlotte City Schools (now Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools) for 15 years.
She was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She believed the road to the Cross leads to our heavenly home by God’s grace.
Among her many hobbies, her favorite one was growing flowers to share with friends, church events, the sick, and shut-ins. She called it her “flower ministry”, flower beauty created by God who gets the glory and praise.
She is survived by four children: Linda Kay Mozingo East, Patricia (Pat) Ann Mozingo Barnett, Reverend Hugh Lee Mozingo III, and Paul Harold Mozingo, thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Her husband and great grand daughter preceded her in death. Also surviving her is one brother, Franklin Ray Poovey of Bossier City, LA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Improvement Fund, 1900 The Plaza, Charlotte, NC 28205 or Hospice.
Internment will be at Sharon Memorial Park located at the corner of Sharon Amity Road and Monroe Road in Charlotte, NC on October 22 at 1:00 PM, before the celebration of her life service and reception.
