The youngest of nine children, Mrs. Nash was born in Union County, NC, to Frances Eugenia (Beckham) Crowell and William Lester Crowell on May 21, 1919. She moved to Charlotte as a young girl, and, after graduating from Central High School, met John Raymond Nash, whom she married on August 19, 1940 in Dilworth United Methodist Church. Together, “Fan” and “Ray” raised a daughter and three sons, and were married until his passing in 2007.
Mrs. Nash enjoyed music, dancing, her church, her pets, the beach, the mountains, giving gifts, power walking, Tarheel basketball, traveling with her 39 and Holding Club, and spending time with friends and family. She was unfailingly kind and generous, and went the extra mile to make those around her feel important, loved and appreciated. To the end, she insisted she would never get old, and she never did.
Mrs. Nash was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ray; and her big brothers and sisters: Joe, Bonnie, Bill, Jim, Lola Bell, Blanche, Rachel and Ona Mae.
She is survived by her children, John and Susanne Nash of Edisto Island, S.C., David and Suzanne Nash of Wilmington, N.C., Jane and Bill Loy of Charlotte, Tom Nash and Jim Smallridge of Charlotte; and her grandchildren, John and Kathy Nash of Mount Pleasant, S.C., Molly and Patrick Dantzler of Hardeeville, S.C., Alan and Kathryn Nash of Wilmington, N.C., Leslie Nash of Wilmington, N.C., David and Angela Loy of Dunedin, Fla., and Jason and Melissa Loy of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; as well as eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9th at Dilworth United Methodist Church, 605 East Boulevard.
Memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Towers, 5100 Sharon Rd., Charlotte, NC 28210.
