

Mr. Swenson passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014 at his home in Cary, NC. He had lived in Charlotte, as well as Larchmont and New Rochelle, NY. Born September 10, 1921, he was a son of Frank W. Swenson and Mary Emma Herbert Swenson. On April 19, 1944, he married Madelyn F. Byron, with whom he had 64 wonderful years.
Frank is survived by his daughter, Susan L. Fennel of Raleigh; his son, William Swenson of Charlotte; his grandson, Jeff Fennel (Mary) of Cary; granddaughter, Tracey Smith (Matthew) of Chapel Hill; granddaughters, Misty Cunningham and Elizabeth Harkey (Daniel) of Charlotte and Michelle Darroch of Wilmington; eight great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew.
During World War II, Mr. Swenson served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Air Transport Command from 1942-1946. He joined Homelite Chain Saw Company in Port Chester, NY in 1954 and moved with them to their new headquarters in Charlotte in 1975, retiring as Director of International Distribution in 1985.
Baseball was Frank's sport of choice, but his athletic abilities showed up in basketball, bowling, tennis, golf, softball and coaching Little Leagues and Babe Ruth Leagues. Frank, who was a member of the American Legion Post 262 in Charlotte, loved his country, and was a true patriot.
Mr. Swenson’s family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 8th at Harry & Bryant, 500 Providence Road. A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
