
Gary G. Borchardt, 69, of Charlotte, died Monday, November 19, 2012 in Fayetteville, NC. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 24, 2012 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father Timothy Reid as the celebrant. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Service, Derita Chapel.
Gary G. Borchardt was born March 19, 1943 in Fond du Lac, WI, son of the late Arthur and Wanda Borchardt. In 1961, He graduated from Rosendale High School in Rosendale, WI. Gary then enlisted in the US Army as an Armor Crewman. He served with the Third Infantry Division in Germany from 1962 to 1964. After being honorably discharged from the Army, Gary attended the University of Wisconsin – Oshkosh where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration in 1970. Gary worked for Mercury Marine for a short time before starting his career at the Small Business Administration (SBA). Gary retired from the SBA in 2005 after over 25 years of service. He then spent the next 7 years travelling the country in his motorhome.
In November 1969, Gary married his late wife, Mary, in Menasha, WI. They moved to NC in 1971 and served as house parents for over a dozen children at Thompson Children’s Home for 4 years. Both Gary and Mary were active members of St. Ann’s Church for many years where Gary belonged to the St. Ann’s Men’s Club. Gary chaired the annual Christmas tree sales and also served as Treasurer and President of the Club. Gary was also a member of the Hornet’s Nest Region Antique Automobile Club of America.
Aside from his wife and parents, Gary was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Loretta Forcey, father-in-law, George W. Forcey, brother-in-law, George J. Forcey, and sister-in-law, LuAnne Borchardt. He is survived by his daughter, Nicole Feda, and her husband, Kent of Fayetteville, NC; his brothers, Allan of Ajijic, Jalisco, Mexico, Dirk (Marylan) of Dothan, AL, and Greg (Louise) of Cape Coral, FL; his sister, Renee (Russ) Soles of Fond du Lac, WI; and several aunts, nieces, and nephews
