She was born on the 27th of May 1935 in Gaston County, North Carolina, one of five children to the late A.B. Cobb and Bertice Patterson Cobb. Genoa was a 1954 graduate of Bessemer City High School.
In 1955 she obtained a position with Southern Bell in Charlotte which spanned almost twenty years. On the 10th of December 1956 she married Claude J. Chapman and assisted him with the family business, Chapman Masonry Contractors. In their early years they were member of Bethel Baptist Church in Charlotte.
A service to celebrate the life of Genoa Chapman will be held from the graveside at 2:00 PM, Friday, the 27th of March 2026 at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte. The family will greet friends following the graveside.
Genoa is survived by her two children: Vicki Chapman Wright and her husband, Thomas H. Wright of West Chester, OH and Richard Chapman and his husband, Neil Flavin of Belmont, NC; two grandchildren: Nathan Wright and his wife, Jennifer and Virginia Wright and her fiancé’, Dylan Graff; and three great grandchildren: Lewis, Zoe and Phoebe.
