
George Walter Price, 74, of Charlotte, NC, died Sunday, January 22, 2017. George will be laid to rest in the hallowed ground of Arlington National Cemetery. Details of this service will be available at a later date. Arrangements will be provided by McEwen Funeral Services at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Road, Charlotte, NC 28212.
George was born on September 29, 1942 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Vivion Curtis Price, Sr. and the late Lola Madden Price. George received his undergraduate degree from Regis College and his MBA from the University of Denver. He also completed all course work towards his PhD at the University of Denver and was technically ABD.
George began his career in the US Army where he served as a United Nations Protocol Driver in Korea. Later he joined the Columbia, SC Police Department as a Motorcycle Officer, then moved to Lakewood, Colorado to join an innovative Public Safety Department reaching the rank of Field Advisor/Sergeant. George received numerous awards and commendations for his work from local, state, and national organizations including the US Drug Enforcement Agency.
George was a natural student and academic. He loved to teach and share his knowledge. He achieved his goal of teaching as Adjunct Instructor at the University of Denver, CO and Lander College, SC. In addition to teaching, one of his favorite positions was Reviewer/Editor for SC Department of Archives and History Publications Department. He found it an incredible honor to set the record straight to protect the honor and glory of the Great State of South Carolina.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Barbara Milan Price of Charlotte, NC, and one brother Jack Price of Florence, AL. He was preceded in death by two brothers, V. Curtis Price, Jr. and Ray W. Price.
