Gertrude Smith

Charlotte – Mrs. Smith, 90, passed away on February 14, 2015 at Harris Hospice. She was born on November 11, 1924 in Franklin County, NC, a daughter of the late Onnie and Bessie Hayes Renn, and beloved sister of the late Verlie Mabry and brother, William Dempsey Renn.

Though she grew up on a farm, she spent most of her married life living in the cities of Richmond, VA, Wilmington, DE and Charlotte. She and her husband Norfleet were married at Liberty Vance Christian Church in Epsom, NC and enjoyed returning there to see relatives at family reunions. Gertrude was a member of the Mecklenburg Audubon Society and enjoyed field trips with them immensely.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Norfleet N. Smith; daughter, Trudy Smith Barker (Wayne) of Mooresville, NC; son, Norfleet N. Smith, Jr. (Michele) of Richmond, VA; and grandsons, Steven Sexton, Brandon and Nicholas Smith.

Services and burial will be private.
