She leaves behind her husband, Pablo Vaca, her brother, Manuel Insua, and her five children, Jordan Cigler (husband Michael), Megan McLendon (husband Scott), Dylan Robinson, Andres Vaca, and Carmen Vaca. She also leaves behind her five beloved grandchildren Tess, Clara, Ramona, Jack, and Yoko along with her nephews M.C. and Gabriel.
Gloria immigrated to Miami, Florida from Cuba when she was ten years old – her parents making the difficult decision to flee communism to seek out a better life for their children. After moving to Durham, North Carolina in 1976, she spent much of her time as a child advocate and also supported the newly-created National Aids Hotline. In 1996, she moved to Charlotte where she volunteered on multiple political campaigns.
In her final years, Gloria enjoyed spoiling her grandchildren, passionately debating politics, and was involved with many dog rescue organizations.
Gloria did not want a formal funeral service. Instead, her immediate family will hold a small ceremony commemorating her life in the weeks to come. We kindly ask that in lieu of flowers, to donate to the Anti-Defamation League – an organization especially close to her heart.
We thank you for all of the outpouring of support from so many of our family and friends.
