

Goldston Franklin Harris, 85, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, October 30, 2016 following a brief illness. He was born December 2, 1930 in Thomasville, NC, the youngest son of the late Sadie Brady and Walter Guy Harris. He graduated High Point High School in 1949 and was a 1953 Phi Beta Kappa graduate of UNC Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Accounting. Goldston served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955 at Fort Jackson, SC. During that time, he met and married the love of his life, Ann Mansfield, of Greensboro, NC. They married on March 6, 1955, giving them 61 years and 8 months together. He loved to tell the story of how they met and how lucky he was to have married her.
His CPA career began in 1953 when he joined Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company in Greensboro. Goldston transferred to their Charlotte office in 1961, became Tax Partner in 1968, and retired from KPMG in 1989. Following retirement, he maintained active NCACPA membership and worked in various professional capacities until 2010.
Goldston enjoyed his 55 years as a member of Mouzon United Methodist Church, serving as Finance Committee chair for 38 years. He also taught youth and adult Sunday School classes. He was actively involved with the United Methodist Foundation from its inception. He was deeply involved in The Salvation Army, having served as a Board Chairman and enjoyed active involvement until his death. Interests included tennis, reading, and working in the yard.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ann M. Harris; sons, Edward F. Harris and Thomas G. Harris; daughters, Sarah Warren (Tim) and Martha Harris (Brad Nagel); and grandchildren, Garrett Warren, Erin Warren, Emily Nagel, and Willa Nagel. His daughter, Cynthia preceded him in death in December 2015. Brothers, Walter and Willis, also predeceased him.
The family is appreciative of the professionalism and care of Fire, Medic, and CMPD in their time of need. The family will have a private graveside service at Evergreen Cemetery with Pastor Linwood Brooks. The family welcomes all for a celebration of Goldston’s life on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at 11:00 am at Mouzon United Methodist Church in Charlotte. Additionally, all are welcome to pay their last respects at Harry & Bryant Funeral Home through 5:00 pm Thursday.
