Gwendolyn Oliver

Gwen Oliver, daughter of Richard and Louise Whitener, loving wife of Sidney White Oliver, passed on Tuesday morning June 29th under hospice care. She was cared for in her son’s home and her family was by her side upon a peaceful passing. She is survived by her son Sidney Mark Oliver, daughter-in-law Patricia Martelle Oliver and grandchildren Jarrod Cody Oliver, Sheridan Oliver Martin, and John Colton Oliver. She is further survived by her sister Becky Gryder.

Gwen, a Charlotte native, graduated from North Mecklenburg High School in 1957. Gwen was a loyal, dedicated, and cherished employee of Exxon Corp. spanning over 30 + years with Esso, now Exxon. Gwen enjoyed planning parties for her many Exxon retiree friends at their annuitants’ luncheons and especially for her grandchildren’s birthday celebrations. Gwen loved taking care of her family and friends. She was a good neighbor. If you were at Gwen’s table you were in for a homemade treat. Gwen “lived life in the moment”. When you were in her presence you were the most important person. Gwen had a quick wit and loved to tell stories. She could carry on conversations with family and friends for hours. Long telephone conversations with her best friend and sister, Becky, brought her enormous happiness through the years.

Gwen was a blessing to her family and will be greatly missed.

Friends and Family are welcome to meet at McEwen Funeral Home in Derita at 4pm Friday July 1, followed immediately by a 5pm Graveside Services at Gethesame Cemetery.
