

Harry Jones McConnell, Sr. age 83 of the Oakdale Community died peacefully Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at his home. Harry was born May 20, 1927 to the late Dennis Young McConnell and Nevada Wallace McConnell.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor McConnell Brigance.
A visitation will begin at 10:30AM Friday, February 4, 2011 at Covenant United Methodist Church with a service to celebrate his life at 11:30 A. M., Reverends David Lee and Robert Little officiating. Interment will be private for the family at McGee Cemetery. After a life of living for Jesus and his family, he directed various choir for over 40 years and sang with the “Shepherd of Songs”. Harry was a member of Covenant UMC.
His love, other than Frances, was singing and his family. Harry started working for the Charlotte Observer as Classified Advertising Manager. Later, he went to Barclay’s American and retired in 1989. He was co-founder of Lake Wylie Hardware in Lake Wylie, SC.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Claudia Frances, one son, Harry (Susan), one daughter, Terry McConnell Todd. Also, seven grandchildren, Tripp (Stacy), Casey (Jason), Brenna, Bryan, Jody, Travis, Scotty (Ashley), as well as four great grandchildren, Dylan, Garrett, Alex, and Addison, brother-in-law, Jimmy Eaton and wife, Jackie, and one niece, Darlene Brigance Patterson.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. John Powderly and Staff for all the love and care they provided Harry for four years. Another thanks goes to Hospice & Palliative Care, Charlotte Region, especially, Amy Cassano, Harry’s nurse.
