She had been battling several health issues and passed peacefully surrounded by her family.
She was born and raised in Spruce Pine, NC. At the age of 21 she moved to Valdosta, GA where she met the love of her life, Edward Johnston Sr. After Ed was discharged from the Air Force, they settled in Charlotte, NC where they raised their family.
Hazel was preceded in death by her mother, Jewel Weatherman, and her husband, Ed Johnston. She is survived by her father, Carl Weatherman; three children, Sherri Oliver-Kirton (husband, Randy), Lori Johnston, and Edward Johnston Jr. (wife, Jennifer); four grandchildren, Kevin Oliver, Miranda Kirton, Edward Johnston III, and Bryce Johnston; and a great-grandson, Finn Oliver.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00am until 10:45am on Friday, March 4th, 2022 at Forest Lawn West Funeral Home, 4601 Freedom Drive in Charlotte. The Johnston family invites guests to share stories of Hazel’s life during this time. Following the visitation, the graveside service will be conducted at 11:00am at Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
